What Are Automatic Renewals?

We’re introducing automatic renewals to make managing your borrowed items more convenient. Eligible materials will automatically renew three days before their due date so long as they haven’t reached the renewal limit and don’t have any holds placed on them by other patrons. Automatic renewals mean fewer worries about manually renewing or returning items. Read the notification carefully.  Any items which could not be renewed must be returned by their indicated due date to avoid late fees.

How Automatic Renewals Work

  • Eligible items renew automatically three days before their due date.
  • If you are signed up for email notifications, you will receive a notice listing which items were renewed and their new due dates.
  • Items may be renewed up to two times, if no holds exist from other patrons and if your account is in good standing.
  • Items on hold by other patrons or borrowed via Inter-Library Loan (ILL) won’t auto-renew.
  • After two renewals, items must be returned, but can then be checked out again if nobody else has requested them.

Borrowing Policies You Should Know

  • Most items circulate for three weeks, while DVDs and video games circulate for one week.
  • Your account must be in good standing for renewals.
